Great review as always.After being somewhat put off by the heavy grain on the title sequence,when the actual film starts it wasn't as noticeable and the HDR shines.I had it on digital and thought it was sharp but going back to it and comparing the 4k is really good.

The 4K looks blown out in highlights in some scenes! Detail looks obliterated. Please explain. My QD-OLED TV is in 1440p HDR mode.

So they really haven't been shrink wrapping slips anymore, eh? Disappointing, and will just hope Arrow, or Kino don't follow suit. For the price point it's pretty absurd. I get why Vestron does it, and Vinegar Syndrome does a great job with packaging. Also, I noticed their steelbooks are shrinkwrapped. Thank God, they at least still do that.

No, the Blu ray looks absolutely horrible. It is neither crisp nor clear. The previously released DVD (which I also own) already looks bad as a DVD. I then purchased the Blu ray, hoping it would be a vast improvement. Well, the Blu ray looks no better, perhaps even worse on Blu ray. I own several of James Stewart's westerns on Blu ray (along with about a thousand other Blurays). Visually, this Blu ray copy look worse than a decent VHS copy. The video clips above are about how it actually looks on Blu ray. The single worst Blu ray I own visually speaking. Honestly, it doesn't matter whether you buy the DVD or Blu ray, they both look simply horrible. You have been warned.

I'd rather watch horror films on VHS or DVD. HD makes a lot of horror movies look terrible. Too much detail ruins the old special effects makeup and props. Not every horror movie looks bad in HD, but a lot of them do.

Nice! I got the Matinee 4K recently myself along with the poster. Only drawback is that the actual MANT short film is missing from this 4K release so I'm holding onto my Arrow Video bluray which maintains it along with some exclusive bonus features that were never included on Shout's original bluray release.

DVD often have very interesting outlandish colors, in a way adds surreal look in feel and tone I kinda do like better depends on certain scenes. But, unfortunately my laptop is not HDR. While I do have old DVD, I rather have both new blu-ray and 4k UHD for better sharpness and more faithful film feel. I can't keep dvds of movies when I already have better newer formats to take advantage of. Unless DVDs is the only way to watch when no better options available.

I know Donner purists will prefer his cut the most because it removes a lot of the campiness from Richard Lester's version but I will always prefer the theatrical cut as it is my favorite and the one hold dear as it's the first Superman film I saw in theaters and I remember cheering at the screen when Superman arrives at the Daily Planet and challenges Zod, the whole Metropolis fight still holds up but not so much in Donner's cut as you can see where they had to pick and choose different takes from Lester as Donner hadn't filmed any of the Metropolis fight. As it is I can enjoy Donner's cut as a curious little extra.

Sure the 4k has higher saturation but if I have to squint to see detail differences, I don't see any need to upgrade.

I've been a big fan of Death Machine for over 20 years. So this release was highly anticipated by me. And I must say it looks incredible. Sadly, my copy has serious audio issues on the director's cut and U.S. theatrical cut versions. I'd be curious to hear if others are experiencing that or if it's just my copy.

I'm not a big enough fan of this movie to get the 4K but was going to grab the Arrow blu-ray during the next Barnes & Noble sale. Sounds like that might be a good compromise.

Color difference is most likely just from a new color grade and color grades are always subjective and depends on the colorist (as long as he has approval)...nothing changes the feel and look faster than color ...

This movie definitely taught me on not wanting/needing (a) son(s), grandson(s), and great-grandson(s) cause that's a nope for me

American Gigolo looks a lot better. Better details and more natural than the blu-ray
